#1 Prospect Lie: I’m Not Interested

One of the things you will hear the most in this profession is a flat out lie. People have been trained to be skeptical about everything, especially when talking to someone they don’t yet know or trust. When a prospect says, “I’m not interested,” their subconscious has taken over and told them what to say and how to act. What they usually mean is more like, “I would love to make more money but I don’t know you so I’m going to pretend I don’t need your help.”
What you do here determines whether or not the conversation goes any further. Most network marketers will accept the “I’m not interested” auto-response and move on to their next prospect but you don’t always have to. Try asking something like, “So you already make all the money you want and need?” or “Well, what exactly aren’t you interested in?” This probably won’t work on everyone, but a lot of people will let their guard down long enough for you to jump into your ‘consultant’ role and start taking the conversation in the right direction.
Ask yourself this: If someone I didn’t know called me to pitch their business, how would I react?
